Hoodline's veteran tipster Al M. tells us that Hoza Pizzeria is now open downtown, in the former Five10 Pizza spot on the corner of 15th and Franklin streets. Single slices run $4.25-5.25, with 10" pies from $11-13. Topping options range from classic cheese or pepperoni to a spicy Hawaiian pie.

The new pizzeria also has six beers on draft, but there's bad news for fans of the space's pinball machine, Al said: "it's been removed with no chance for it to come back."

Laurel

Over in Laurel, 4505 Burgers & BBQ will open its second location (and first East Bay outpost) on June 14, Eater SF reports. Update: A company spokesperson tells Hoodline that "due to some circumstances out of their control regarding utility service upgrades" 4505 Burgers & BBQ will not open this Friday. The restaurant is working to "open doors as soon as possible", the spokesperson added.

Al M. dropped by and reports that the location will be bigger than 4505's San Francisco location (on Divisadero Street), but the menu is expected to be similar. Customers can enjoy smoked meat (like ribs or brisket) by the pound or plate, along with sandwiches, salads, and a variety of sides. 4505's "Best Damn Cheeseburger" will also be offered.

The larger space will allow owner Ryan Farr to install a whole hog cooker, as well as a soft-serve ice cream machine. The space also has a back patio, which is "looking good," according to Al.

Jack London Square

James & the Giant Cupcake (463 2nd St.)

A third location of Oakland-based cupcake shop James & the Giant Cupcake has been in the works at Jack London Square since last fall, in the former home of Authentic Bagel Co.

Though the company's website says the new location is set to open this spring, things appear to be taking a little extra time. The cupcake shop's owners did not respond to a request for comment, but tipster Al dropped in and spoke to an employee, who says it should open in early to mid-July.

Like the cupcake shop's two other locations (341 17th St. in Downtown and 6326 San Pablo Ave. in North Oakland), James & the Giant Cupcake will offer a variety of flavor options, including pink lemonade, sea salt caramel and the "Smurf," a blueberry cupcake topped with cream cheese frosting and blue sprinkles. Gluten free and vegan varieties are also available; you can check out the full assortment here.

Dimond

Grand Lake Kitchen (2042 MacArthur Blvd.)

Grand Lake Kitchen officially opened the doors on its second Oakland location today, serving brunch and dinner. For the month of June, they'll be open six days a week (closed Tuesdays), expanding to seven days a week in July.

"We want to thank you in person for all your peeks through the windows, encouraging Instagram messages, and warm support," owners May and David Wasem wrote on Facebook.

Brunch options include a smoked fish tower with trout dip, smoked salmon and black cod, baked eggs, sweet or savory French toast or a savory porridge. As for dinner, guests can choose from a vegetable pot pie, a ribeye steak, bone-in pork chop or a pan-roasted chicken breast.

Soups, sandwiches and salads will also be available, with an express counter to pick up to-go orders. In July, the restaurant will open its outdoor patio, which will be dog-friendly.

Uptown

Finally, Hoodline tipster Chauncey B. alerted us that Uptown has a new Afro-Brazilian eatery: The Damel, which is housed inside of the 25th Street Taproom. The Damel offers more than a dozen varieties of empanadas, including meat, vegetarian and dessert options, as well as fresh juices, smoothies and smoothie bowls. (Here's the full menu.)

Chef Oumar Diouf, who prepares the dishes, has been working in restaurants for a decade, and cooked for athletes during the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

Thanks to Chauncey B. and our veteran tipster Al M.! Have you noticed a new addition to (or subtraction from) Oakland's food landscape? Text a tip and a horizontal photo to 510-757-9959, and we'll look into it.
