Oakland weekend: Warriors watch party, Temescal Street Fair, plant trees with Sierra Club, more

On Friday, the Warriors will face the Raptors at home in Game 4 of the NBA Finals. But basketball is just the beginning of the fun this weekend, which also includes tree-planting, a street fair and the chance to get a reading from TLC's "Long Island Medium." Here are the top events around the Town this weekend.

Can't score tickets to Friday night's Finals game? The New Parkway cinema is the place to be, showcasing all the action on its giant silver screen. Settle into one of the comfy couches and chairs, order up a snack or some beers from the waitstaff, and enjoy the game with a crowd of die-hard fans.

Be sure to show up 30-60 minutes beforehand to get a good seat, as the event is expected to sell out — viewers must be in their seats at least 15 minutes before tip-off, and saving seats isn't allowed.

Theresa Caputo of 'Long Island Medium'

If you're a fan of TLC's reality show "Long Island Medium," in which psychic Theresa Caputo helps her clients connect with loved ones who've passed away, then you'll want to head to the Paramount Theater for her talk on Friday. Caputo will discuss her own journey through dealing with grief, and provide messages of healing to select audience members.

Safe Oakland Summit

This daylong event will bring together community stakeholders to establish goals for Oakland's first-ever Department of Violence Prevention. Victims or family members of victims who've dealt with domestic violence, gun violence, sex trafficking and other issues will be asked to share their experiences and provide feedback on how future incidents can be prevented. All are welcome to attend.

When: Saturday, June 8, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Plant trees in Oakland with the Sierra Club

The Sierra Club is inviting Oaklanders to contribute to the greening of the city on Sunday afternoon, by planting trees to add beauty and oxygen to Oakland's streets.

After a short orientation, volunteers will be driven to a number of planting locations around town, where they'll dig holes, plant the trees, add soil around them and clean the sidewalk. Participants must be able to lift 30 pounds; kids are welcome to accompany adults with advance notice. 

When: Sunday, June 9, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Where: Meet for orientation in the parking lot at Epic School, 1045 Derby Ave.

Temescal Street Fair

A 10-block stretch of Telegraph Avenue will be closed to cars on Sunday afternoon for the annual Temescal Street Fair, featuring three stages of live music, local eats and drinks, carnival rides and a fun zone for children.

Visitors can enjoy circus performances from the Kinetic Arts Center troupe, salsa dance in the street, browse wares from local vendors or check out up-and-coming indie bands with craft beer at Temescal Brewing. The event is BART-accessible, and offers free valet parking for bikes. 

When: Sunday, June 9, 12 - 6 p.m.
