Long Shot

When Fred Flarsky reunites with his first crush, one of the most influential women in the world, Charlotte Field, he charms her. As she prepares to make a run for the Presidency, Charlotte hires Fred as her speechwriter and sparks fly.

With a Tomatometer Score of 81 percent and an Audience Score of 76 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, "Long Shot" has been getting attention since its release on May 3.

"Clearly, (Charlize) Theron can turn her hand to any genre," according to Anthony Lane of the New Yorker, while Tribune News Service's Katie Walsh said, "It's 'Veep,' but less absurdly acid-tongued, and a lot more swoony. Still, the incisive cultural and political commentary cuts deep, and Theron and (Seth) Rogen turn out to be a winning pair."

It's screening at Cinemark Movies 8 (4591 San Mateo Blvd. NE) and Cinemark Movies West (9201 Coors Road NorthW.) through Thursday, June 27. Click here for showtimes and tickets.

Late Night

A legendary late-night talk show host's world is turned upside down when she hires her only female staff writer. Originally intended to smooth over diversity concerns, her decision has unexpectedly hilarious consequences as the two women separated by culture and generation are united by their love of a biting punchline.

With a Tomatometer Score of 79 percent and an Audience Score of 78 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, "Late Night" is well worth a watch.

"Heightened by an impressive performance from (Emma) Thompson, it's a fun movie that tackles a variety of issues, including sexism in the workplace, with panache," noted Kathleen Sachs of the Chicago Reader, while the Chicago Sun-Times' Richard Roeper said, "Humor can be a great equalizer, and Thompson and (Mindy) Kaling are terrific as two women who are funny as hell and should never be underestimated."

Want to see for yourself? It's playing at Regl Winrock IMAX & RPX (2100 Louisiana Blvd. NE) through Thursday, June 27. Click here for showtimes and tickets.

Yesterday

A struggling musician realizes he's the only person on Earth who can remember The Beatles.

Set to be released on Friday, June 28, "Yesterday" already has a Tomatometer Score of 69 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.

Urban Cinefile's Andrew L. Urban said, "They are still a river of great songs, nostalgia notwithstanding, and The Beatles can only be forgotten in a parallel universe of Richard Curtis' imagination, as in 'Yesterday,'" and Urban Cinefile's Louise Keller noted, "It is original and audacious, but the film never soars as I had hoped — one idea is stretched to the limit. Although, what's not to like when hearing 15 of The Beatles' best?"

Catch a sneak peak on the big screen at Regl Winrock IMAX & RPX (2100 Louisiana Blvd. NE) on Thursday, June 27. Click here for showtimes and tickets.
