A new pub, offering burgers and more, has opened up shop in the neighborhood. The new arrival to North Beach, called The Showdown, is located at 1268 Grant Ave., the former home of Tamarind Hall.

The Showdown comes from The Pour Guys, the bar group that's also behind SoMa's The Tempest/Box Kitchen and Louie's, as well as Potrero Hill's Connecticut Yankee. But it's not to be confused with Sixth Street bar Showdown, which closed up in 2017 — the two bars had completely different ownership.

The bar's food menu includes a "Pantera Smash Burger" made with wagyu beef; corn dogs; and snacks like duck-fat popcorn and pork rinds. Some items, like drunken noodles with tofu and a Thai chicken banh mi, pay tribute to the space's former incarnation as King of Thai Noodle House.

Beers, shots and well drinks are the primary options, with deals like a shot of Fernet-Branca and a Miller High Life mini-bottle for $6. A few higher-end cocktails, like the Mother Bronson (whiskey, blackberry and lemon), run $12.

With a five-star rating out of eight reviews on Yelp so far, The Showdown seems to be a welcome addition to the neighborhood.

Corey R., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on July 16, wrote, "Came to The Showdown on their opening last Thursday and was pretty impressed! As a huge fan of when this place was utilized as King of Thai, it's great to see such a beautiful building being put to use again as a bar/restaurant with great prices. I really like the Pour Guys' other establishments and can't wait to see how it goes with this place."

Yelper Ubique K. added, “I was so happy to see the Showdown open up earlier this week, as I knew the Pour Guys would knock it out of the park. ... The menu is full of unique offerings and a selection of delicious snacks and entrees, all of which are much different than the traditional North Beach fare of pasta, seafood, pizza, etc.”

Swing on by to take a peek for yourself: The Showdown is open from noon–2 a.m. daily.
