We took a data-driven look at the question, using Yelp to analyze which eateries have been getting a notable increase in attention this month.

To find out who made the list, we looked at Chicago businesses on Yelp by category and counted how many reviews each received. Rather than compare them based on number of reviews alone, we calculated a percentage increase in reviews over the past month, and tracked businesses that consistently increased their volume of reviews to identify statistically significant outliers compared to past performance.

Chicago Brewhouse

Open since 2018, this beer bar, pop-up restaurant and traditional American spot is trending compared to other businesses categorized as "American (Traditional)" on Yelp.

Citywide, traditional American spots saw a median 1.9 percent increase in new reviews over the past month, but Chicago Brewhouse saw a 40 percent increase, maintaining a mixed three-star rating throughout. Moreover, on a month-to-month basis Chicago Brewhouse's review count increased by more than 200 percent.

Located at 31 E. Riverwalk in the Loop, Chicago Brewhouse offers crab wontons, pizza flatbread, street tacos and more.

Philz Coffee

Whether or not you've been hearing buzz about Wicker Park's Philz Coffee, the coffee and tea spot is a hot topic according to Yelp review data.

While businesses categorized as "Coffee & Tea" on Yelp saw a median 3 percent increase in new reviews over the past month, Philz Coffee bagged a 65.6 percent increase in new reviews within that timeframe, maintaining a strong 4.5-star rating.

Open at 1642 W. Division St. (between Ashland Avenue and Paulina Street) since 2002, Philz Coffee offers a variety of coffee blends, an iced mint mojito, an iced mocha and more.

West Town's Cira is also making waves. Open since April at 200 N. Green St. (between Jackson Boulevard and Adams Street), the Mediterranean, Turkish and breakfast and brunch spot has seen a 24.5 percent bump in new reviews over the last month, compared to a median review increase of 1.8 percent for all businesses tagged "Breakfast & Brunch" on Yelp.

There's more than one hot spot trending in Chicago's breakfast and brunch category: Bacon and Jam has seen a 10% increase in reviews.

Cira offers pancakes, pastries, omelets and more. Over the past month, it's maintained a healthy four-star rating among Yelpers.

Casati's Pizza Vino

Casati's Pizza Vino is the city's buzziest pizza spot by the numbers.

The Italian and breakfast and brunch spot, which offers pizza and more and opened at 444 W. Fullerton Parkway (between Lakeview Avenue and Clark Street) in 2018, increased its new review count by 12.7 percent over the past month, an outlier when compared to the median new review count of 2.5 percent for the Yelp category "Pizza." It outperformed the previous month by gaining 2.0 times more reviews than expected based on past performance.

Shake Shack

The Near North's popular Shake Shack is currently on the upswing in the burger category on Yelp.

While businesses categorized as "Burgers" on Yelp saw a median 1.9 percent increase in new reviews over the past month, this fast food spot, which offers burgers and more, increased its new reviews by 0.9 percent—and kept its rating consistent at 3.5 stars.

There's more abuzz in the world of Chicago burgers: Small Cheval - Wells has seen an 8.8% increase in reviews.

Open for business at 66 E. Ohio St. (between Wabash Avenue and Rush Street) since 2014, the business offers burgers, a crispy chicken sandwich, crinkle fries and more.

Daisies

Open since 2017, this well-established pasta shop, cocktail bar and New American spot is trending compared to other businesses categorized as "American (New)" on Yelp.

Citywide, businesses tagged "American (New)" saw a median 2.5 percent increase in new reviews over the past month, but Daisies saw a 6.2 percent increase, maintaining a healthy 4.5-star rating throughout. It gained 0.6 times more reviews than expected based on past performance, significantly outperforming the previous month.

Located at 2523 N. Milwaukee Ave. in Logan Square, Daisies offers ravioli, tortellini, salads and more.

Barrio

Is the Near North's well-established Barrio on your radar? According to Yelp review data, the bar and Mexican and Tex-Mex spot is getting plenty of attention.

While businesses categorized as "Mexican" on Yelp increased their media new review count by 2.1 percent over the past month, Barrio nabbed a 6.7 percent increase in reviews within that timeframe, maintaining a healthy four-star rating.

Located at 65 W. Kinzie St., Barrio offers lobster quesadilla, ceviche, tacos and more.
