Taking over the space of the now-shuttered Gaslamp Cafe, Howard Taps specializes in bun and banh mi, offering unique takes on the classic Vietnamese noodle bowls and sandwiches. Order a bun bowl topped with grilled pork marinated in Malibu rum or Laotian lemongrass sausage, or check out the banh mi filled with falafel or Nashville-style hot fried chicken. Howard Taps' food offerings are also available for takeout. (It does not deliver.)
The new spot's beer license is pending, but it plans to offer a wide array of local and regional craft beers. Once it receives its license, it will also roll out a daily happy hour menu featuring Asian fusion tacos.
Howard Taps' bar concept is rooted in Vietnamese tradition. "In Vietnam, Quán nhậu is a feast where friends gather around having tasty food and iced cold beers," the business's website states. "Howard Taps wants to carry this legacy to this neighborhood and enhance the experience with local microbrew beers."
With a five-star rating out of three reviews on Yelp so far, the new brewery has already made a good impression.
