Schmackary's makes East Village debut, with cookies and more

A new bakery and cafe has opened for business in the neighborhood. Called Schmackary's, the new addition is located at 35 Cooper Square in the East Village.

This is the second outpost of the cookie bakery, which specializes in signature cookie creations made with natural, gourmet ingredients. (The original Schmackary's is in Hell's Kitchen.) On a given day, the shop stocks at least two dozen of Schmackary's more than 45 cookie varieties, including classical and seasonal varieties, which are available individually, by the dozen, in a cookie "flight" or as an assortment in a gift tin. Check out the red velvet, Funfetti, mint mojito and Yogi Bare, a vegan and gluten-free oatmeal cookie with peanut butter, cranberries, maple syrup and sunflower and pumpkin seeds. Schmackary's offers other treats such as brownies, cookie bars and multi-layer cookie cakes, as well as beverages like coffee, tea, milkshakes and fresh milk.

With a five-star rating out of six reviews on Yelp so far, Schmackary's has already made a good impression.

Julie M., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on July 4, wrote, "Same as the Hell's Kitchen location in terms of awesome cookies, but even better because it's much more spacious and there's lots of sitting room!"

And Milo C. wrote, "Amazing new cookie shop that just opened up in East Village! I had a cookies and cream cookie and it was excellent."

Swing on by to take a peek for yourself: Schmackary's is open from 8 a.m.–11 p.m. on Sunday-Tuesday and 8 a.m.–midnight on Wednesday-Saturday.
