Here's the latest in SF restaurant news. In this edition: a local pizza maven closes his SoMa outpost, a Mediterranean eatery is set to shutter in the Mission and a Mexican restaurant will soon make its debut in the Financial District.

Slice House by Tony Gemignani (680 2nd St.)
Tipster Rebecca S. altered us that Tony Gemignani, of Tony's Pizza Napoletana fame, has closed his SoMa pizzeria, Slice House. The location was open for a little over four years.
The pizzeria’s Facebook page confirmed the closure, citing increasing rents and lowered foot traffic from road and sidewalk construction as the nails in its coffin.
"Thank you to our team who worked tirelessly to offer the best experience to our guests every day, and the community who supported the location and continue to support our efforts," the owners wrote.
Patrons can still enjoy Slice House slices at neighboring Oracle Park during Giants games, and a "Tony G's" slice purveyor will also be part of the food lineup at the new Chase Center.
There's also still a Slice House in North Beach, where the original Tony's Pizza Napoletana just celebrated its 10th anniversary, as well as in the Upper Haight (1535 Haight St.) and inside The Market (1355 Market St.).
Mission
Zaytoon (1136 Valencia St.)
The Mission is saying goodbye to decade-old Mediterranean eatery Zaytoon, which has announced via a sign in its front window that it will close Saturday, September 7.
Owner Christopher Totah, who opened the location in 2009, told Mission Local that a rent hike and staffing shortage contributed to the closure. However, Zaytoon’s outpost at 607 Divisadero St., which debuted in 2018, will remain open for business.

Tin Cactus (56 Belden Pl.)
The former Sauce space on Belden Place, which closed last month, already has a taker. The team behind neighboring Toy Soldier is expanding to open a second restaurant, Tin Cactus, there this fall.
According to the Chronicle, Tin Cactus will be a 60-seat, full-service Mexican restaurant with a full bar, specializing in the cuisine of Baja California. Expect dishes like aguachile made with hamachi, avocado and plantain chips; mole with grilled chicken; and Dungeness crab tostadas with jicama. Tacos, quesadillas and tortas will also be on the menu.
On the beverage side of things, Tin Cactus will offer 60 tequilas and 20 mezcals, available in a selection of as many as 20 specialty cocktails. Toy Soldier brews its own beer, and the owners plan to craft some Mexican lagers to complement the food.
The space is currently under renovation, with a target opening date of October.
