Police are seeking assistance in finding the driver responsible for a fatal hit-and-run collision in Bayview last week.

Last Sunday, August 4, a driver struck 59-year-old Bruce Romans at Carroll Avenue and Arelious Walker Drive. The incident occurred around 11:56 p.m., and the driver fled the scene.

Romans was found by Fire Department personnel in the middle of the street, in front of the Alice Griffith Apartments. He was transported to San Francisco General Hospital, where he died of his injuries.

While the department did not disclose any information on the driver or the car, they said that Romans, who was wearing a dark jacket and blue jeans at the time of the crash, sustained injuries consistent with being struck by a motor vehicle.

SFPD investigators are now seeking the public's help in finding the responsible driver. Anyone who was in the area that night, and recalls seeing Romans or a vehicle driving erratically or with damage to its exterior, is encouraged to call the SFPD 24-hour tip line at (415) 575-4444or text a tip to TIP411 and begin the text message with "SFPD." Tipsters may remain anonymous.

Romans' death is the latest in a series of serious automotive collisions with pedestrians in San Francisco this month. On Saturday evening, a 79-year-old woman was killed after being struck by a car at Fifth and Market streets. The same night, a 48-year-old man sustained life-threatening injuries in a hit-and-run collision at 16th and Bryant streets.
