These Fort Worth-based pups are up for adoption and in need of good homes

Interested in adopting a pet — or just looking at some precious pups up for adoption? There are oodles of darling dogs up for adoption at animal shelters in and around Fort Worth.

Animal shelters and pet rescue groups work hard to care for unhoused pets and connect them to loving homes. Hoodline used data from Petfinder to power this roundup of dogs currently available for adoption.

(Details like pet availability, training, vaccinations and other features are based on data provided by Petfinder and may be subject to change; contact the shelter for the latest information.)

Shortcake, rottweiler

Shortcake is an endearing female rottweiler dog being kept at Saving Hope Animal Rescue Fund.

Shortcake is ready to make friends — she loves other dogs, and doesn't mind children. She's already spayed, vaccinated and house-trained.

From Shortcake's current caretaker:

Shortcake has a spirit that is contagious — she smiles all the time and is so sweet! Shortcake has lost some of her pigment in her face due to a condition called vitiligo, which causes dogs (and humans) to loose pigment. It is just cosmetic, and does not effect the dog’s health in any way. Shortcake is ready for her forever home!

Dixie Sue, German shepherd and vizsla mix

Dixie Sue is an adorable female German shepherd and vizsla mix being cared for at Saving Hope Animal Rescue Fund.

Dixie Sue gets along great with other dogs, and doesn't mind children. Dixie Sue is already spayed, house-trained, crate-trained and vaccinated.

Notes from Dixie Sue's caretakers:

Dixie Sue is a super sweet two-month-old shepherd mix looking for her forever home! She likes to swim, take walks and snuggle in your lap, and even likes feeling fancy in a dress some days! She would do well in a home with or without kids or other dogs, and is ready to give lots of kisses to her forever family.

Tom, chocolate Labrador retriever mix

Tom is a handsome male chocolate Labrador retriever mix being cared for at Saving Hope Animal Rescue Fund.

Tom gets along great with other small dogs, but would prefer to be the only big dog in his forever home. Rest assured: Tom is already vaccinated and neutered. He has mastered his house-training etiquette, too.

Here's what Tom's friends at Saving Hope Animal Rescue Fund think of him:

Sweet Tom is looking for his forever home! He deserves love so badly. Tom is such a sweet and loving dog, despite everything he’s experienced. Tom loves being pet and laying on the bed. He’s a gentle giant.

Bubus, chihuahua mix

Bubus is a winsome male chihuahua mix currently housed at Saving Hope Animal Rescue Fund.

Bubus plays well with others — he gets along swimmingly with other dogs and kids, but does need time to warm up to new adults. Bubus is already house-trained, crate-trained, neutered and vaccinated.

Bubus' current caretakers say:

Bubus is a sweet seven-year-old, seven-pound chihuahua mix that loves to cuddle. He is partially blind in one eye, but that doesn’t stop him. He's such a sweet boy that just needs love and a little patience.
