The number of crime incidents in Colorado Springs saw an overall decrease last week, after a previous rise, according to data from SpotCrime, which collects reports from police agencies and validated sources. Incidents fell to 125 for the week of September 2, down from 149 the week before.
The offenses that decreased the most were theft and assault. Theft fell to 18 incidents last week, from 30 the week before. Assault went from 13 to six.
There was one reported shooting last week. That represents a steady state from the previous week.
Among the few types of offenses that saw an uptick last week, reports of burglary went from five to six, and vandalism rose from zero to one.
There were 93 reports of "other" crimes, a decrease of seven from the previous week. SpotCrime's broad "other" category includes a variety of offenses like fraud, trespassing, public disturbance and traffic violations. Of those incidents, one involved an arrest, down from five reported arrests the week before.
Looking at crime patterns in different areas of the city, Central Colorado Springs, West Colorado Springs and Old Colorado City had the most reported incidents last week. Central Colorado Springs and Old Colorado City were at the top of the list the previous week as well.
Central Colorado Springs saw the largest decline; incidents in the neighborhood have been falling for two weeks in a row. Crime reports in Old Colorado City also fell, after increasing the week before, and incidents in Southeast Colorado Springs are down considerably as well.
Regarding when crime most often occurs, Monday, Tuesday and Friday had the most crime incidents last week. The largest decrease from the previous week occurred on Saturday, Tuesday and Wednesday, while incidents on Sunday, Friday and Monday went up. Comparing times of day, late morning, evening and early morning saw the most crime last week.
