Here are some notable crime reports from SFPD's Central District since our last biweekly recap. The district encompasses Chinatown; the Financial District; the Embarcadero; Russian, Telegraph and Nob Hills; North Beach and Union Square.

Woman runs into burglar in basement

On October 17, a 43-year-old woman walked into the basement area of her apartment building at Houston Street (and Columbus) at 7:47 a.m. when she saw a man aged 25 to 30. He fled in an unknown direction. No arrest has been made. 

Man pistol-whipped during wallet robbery

A 28-year-old man was pistol-whipped by a man in his twenties on October 16 at 1 a.m. on the corner of Shannon and Post streets. The suspect was able to take the victim's wallet with cash and credit cards inside, then fled southbound on Shannon Street. The victim suffered non-life threatening injuries from the encounter. No arrest has been made.

Container lit on fire

A 30-year-old person lit a container on fire with a lighter on October 12 at 10:09 p.m. near Montgomery and Bush streets. Police arrived and arrested the suspect.

Perfume robbery leads to assault

On October 14, a perfume robbery from a store led to an assault of a 59-year-old man at 12:40 p.m. First, a 41-year-old and a 21-year-old woman took the perfume and attempted to exit the store at Stockton and O'Farrell streets. The 59-year-old man attempted to stop them. In response, one woman hit him with a construction sawhorse while the other woman punched him. Police said an arrest was made.

Woman slapped in the face during phone robbery

On October 10 at 3:28 p.m., a 22-year-old woman was approached from behind by a man of unknown age at California and Hyde streets, who then proceeded to slap her in the face. The suspect then took the woman's phone. No arrest has been made.

Four suspects rob man at gunpoint

Another phone was taken in a robbery on October 10 at 1:05 a.m. The robbery took place at Bay and Kearny streets, where two 20-year-old men exited a car and approached a 48-year-old man. Both suspects then pointed guns at the victim and took a phone, a backpack and cash. They were then able to flee in their car, where two other unknown suspects were waiting for them. No arrest has been made.

Robbery victim recovers her phone, detains suspect

On October 7 at 7:20 p.m. at Powell and Market streets, a 32-year-old woman was approached by a 16-year-old girl who took her phone and fled on foot. The woman then chased the suspect, recovered her phone and detained the suspect until police arrived. Officers were able to arrest the suspect.
