A new restaurant specializing in shabu-shabu, or Japanese hot pot, has made its debut in the Inner Richmond. The fresh addition, called Mokuku, is located at 332 Clement St.

Taking over the space of Taste of Jiangnan, Mokuku offers all-you-can-eat shabu-shabu, whose name is an onomatopoeia of the swishing sound made when meat and veggies are stirred into the pot of broth.

The 90-minute shabu-shabu experience ($34.99 per person) includes a choice of soup base, such as tonkotsu and spicy miso, and a continuous supply of thinly sliced wagyu beef, pork belly, mushrooms, tofu and more — all served with an assortment of appetizers and sauces.

Mokuku also offers a la carte shabu-shabu with seafood and vegetarian options. To drink, the bar serves a selection of draft beers, sake and soju cocktails.

With a four-star rating out of 32 reviews on Yelp so far, the new arrival is getting solid feedback from clientele.

Jasper K., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on Oct. 1, wrote, "Everything was fresh and delicious."

Yelper Angie M. added, "Very worth it for the price and the services. Definitely will be coming back."

Intrigued? Stop in to try it for yourself. Mokuku is open from 5–10 p.m. on Sunday–Thursday and 5–11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
