A new Target store is slated to open early next month on the corner of 13th and Folsom streets, in the former home of Sports Authority. A representative for the chain says the planned opening date is November 10.

The 40,247-square-foot, two-story building was temporarily occupied by Goodwill after Sports Authority's 2016 closure, but has been vacant for the past year.

The San Francisco Planning Commission approved plans for Target to move into the space at 1690 Folsom St. last October, after more than a year of planning.

The SoMa store will be the company's sixth in San Francisco; the nearest location at the moment is the outpost in the Metreon mall, at Fourth and Mission streets.

While the Metreon location lacks on-site parking, the new store has an enclosed surface parking lot that will be offered to shoppers. According to SF Planning documents, 52 of the previous 54 parking spots will remain, with the other two being repurposed for landscaping.

A CVS Pharmacy is enclosed within the new Target.

Target's corporate spokesperson said the smaller, "city-scale" store plans to offer the typical suite of Target offerings, such as apparel, accessories, home decor, personal care products, and health care essentials. There will be beer and wine available for purchase, as well as fresh produce and other grab-and-go grocery items.

“This is a compelling opportunity to reach additional guests who may not have easy access to our current store locations,” the spokesperson noted.

The store will also include a full-service CVS Pharmacy and a Starbucks barista counter, and allow customers to pick-up online orders in-store within an hour after purchase.

The store is located on the opposing corner from Rainbow Grocery.

Though it's still under construction, the store is already hosting daily hiring events from 8 a.m. through 6:30 p.m, through October 31. Interested candidates are encouraged to apply online at target.com/careers, or just show up on-site.

Once it opens on November 10, the store will operate from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.
