1. The Original Sunrise Cafe

First up is the Original Sunrise Cafe, which was opened in 2005 by husband-and-wife duo Andrew and Angela Goldstein. The owners say they have worked to create a welcoming environment, offering food "cooked with care and served with kindness."

Located at 8975 S. Eastern Ave., the family-run business stands out among the local restaurants that are popular with your neighbors. While the average eatery has 16 Nextdoor recommendations, the Original Sunrise Cafe has racked up 237 and was voted a 2019 Neighborhood Favorite in 15 Las Vegas neighborhoods.

Stop by the cafe, open daily from 7 a.m.–3 p.m., for breakfast fare including eggs Benedict, cinnamon French toast and a pastrami omelet with melted Swiss cheese. For lunch, consider the Southwest chicken salad or the Havana sandwich loaded with applewood smoked pork loin, sliced pickles and a citrus chile sauce.

2. Lindo Michoacan

Next up is local mainstay Lindo Michoacan. The Mexican eatery has been serving up traditional fare at its original location at 2655 E. Desert Inn Road since 1990, later expanding to two other Las Vegas-area outposts. Thus far, it has garnered 206 Nextdoor recommendations and is a 2019 Neighborhood Favorite in 25 neighborhoods.

The restaurant specializes in the cuisine of Mexican state Michoacán, where owner Javier Baraja learned to cook under the tutelage of nuns after being sent to study at a seminary.

On the menu, look for specialties such as carnitas in Coca-Cola with dried pasilla chiles; rib-eye steak and sliced onions in verde sauce; and Mexican Gulf shrimp cooked with roasted green chiles and smothered in Monterey Jack cheese.

3. Memphis Championship BBQ

Craving Southern-style barbecue? Then look no further than Memphis Championship BBQ at 2250 E. Warm Springs Road, another 2019 Neighborhood Favorite. With 173 Nextdoor recommendations, the casual spot has been in business for more than two decades and was created in partnership with barbecue legend Mike Mills.

With a tradition of cooking low and slow, the eatery serves up favorites that include caramelized pork burnt ends, spicy Louisiana beef hot links and brisket and ribs smoked over applewood, along with sides like fried okra, baked beans and collard greens.

4. Casa Di Amore

Another popular local spot is Casa Di Amore, which has been recommended by 141 neighbors and was voted a 2019 Neighborhood Favorite business in five Las Vegas neighborhoods. The space features nightly live music, a patio and a video poker lounge at 2850 E. Tropicana Ave.

Dine on mussels marinara, chicken Florentine, veal Marsala and pasta dishes. Pair your meal with a handcrafted cocktail or a glass of wine from the bar. Pro tip: If you visit on Monday, all wine bottles are half off.

5. Chapala's Mexican Restaurant

And then there's the iconic Chapala's Mexican Restaurant at 3331 E. Tropicana Ave. The family-owned business first opened its doors in Las Vegas in the early 1970s and has been dishing out a wide range of Mexican fare ever since, earning it 101 Nextdoor recommendations and enough votes to be named a 2019 Neighborhood Favorite in seven neighborhoods.

For breakfast, the menu features huevos rancheros and chilaquiles con chorizo, which is made with tortillas, Mexican sausage and salsa fresca. Later in the day, fill up on chile relleno, carne asada tacos, tamales or the classic Mexican beef tripe soup menudo.
