Oakland weekend: restaurant week, celebrating David Bowie, Lunar New Year Bazaar, more

Kick off the weekend early by dining for a cause with Oakland Restaurant Week. On Friday, catch some laughs at Fox Theater with 'Jay and Silent Bob Reboot'. Celebrate the Lunar New Year early at a Bazaar in Chinatown on Saturday and Sunday. Finally, pay tribute to the late David Bowie at Uptown Nightclub on Saturday night.

Oakland Restaurant Week is entering its tenth year in 2020, with over 100 restaurants participating. The kick off on January 9 will feature all participating restaurants offering deals from $10 - 80 for brunch, lunch and dinner menus. On January 10, special events begin with a Temescal District celebration. The event includes an art walk, historical tour, special happy hours and more. 

Restaurant reservations are recommended via OpenTable. A portion of the proceeds from Oakland Restaurant Week events will be donated to Alameda County Community Food Bank.

Jay and Silent Bob Reboot Roadshow with Kevin Smith & Jason Mewes

Jay and Silent Bob, "refugees from the 90's," are back! Jason Mewes and Kevin Smith are reprising their cult-favorite characters Jay and Silent Bob in a new movie and live tour. The Jay and Silent Bob Reboot Roadshow comes to Oakland on Friday, featuring a screening of the new movie followed by a live Q&A session. Watch the trailer here.

Oakland Chinatown 29th Annual Lunar New Year Bazaar

The year of the Rat officially begins on January 25, but the celebrations are starting early. Head over to Chinatown in Oakland this weekend for a Bazaar hosted by the Oakland Chinatown Chamber of Commerce. There will be live music, dragon dancing, martial arts, vendors and more. This is a family friendly event.

David Bowie Dance Party at Uptown

A night featuring the sounds of David Bowie at Uptown in Oakland on Saturday night. Bowie was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1996. The celebration is right after the anniversary of the English singer-songwriter's birthday, January 8, 1947. Get ready to dance with this playlist of Bowie's greatest hits.
