These Fresno-based doggies are up for adoption and in need of a good homePhotos: Petfinder

Interested in adopting a pet — or just looking at some cuddly canines up for adoption? There are dozens of deserving dogs up for adoption at animal shelters in and around Fresno.

Animal shelters and pet rescue groups work hard to care for unhoused pets and connect them to loving homes. Hoodline used data from Petfinder to power this roundup of dogs currently available for adoption.

(Details like pet availability, training, vaccinations and other features are based on data provided by Petfinder and may be subject to change; contact the shelter for the latest information.)

Boots, spaniel mix

Boots is a sweet male spaniel mix being cared for at Animal Rescue of Fresno.

Boots gets along well with other dogs. Animal Rescue of Fresno, however, wants to place him in a home without small children. Boots is already neutered and vaccinated.

Notes from Boots' caretakers:

Don't let the hair cut fool you, this guy can grow some very long and luxurious fur, but he definitely enjoys a summer shave down, too. Either way, Boots will need a home willing to provide the grooming needed to keep his hair-do fabulous. That won't be too hard though, because Boots is quite a gentleman when it comes to being groomed. Boots is a sweet guy who loves petting and belly rubs. He has a shy disposition, and so we do not recommend small children for Boots. Come by and give a mellow, older gentleman a chance.

Herbie, terrier mix

Herbie is a male terrier mix in the care of Animal Rescue of Fresno.

Herbie gets along well with other dogs. Herbie will do best in a home without small children. His vaccinations are up to date, and he's neutered.

Notes from Herbie's caretakers:

Herbie is a sweet guy that needs a family willing to give him a chance. He is quite shy of new people, which is why young kids would not be best. He is kennel trained and comfortable going into and out of his kennel. Let Herbie know it's "bed time" and off he goes! He is also very treat-motivated. If you are ready to give a shy, sweet boy like Herbie a chance, come by to meet him.

Olivia, chihuahua mix

Olivia is a female chihuahua mix in the care of Animal Rescue of Fresno.

Olivia gets along well with other dogs. Animal Rescue of Fresno, however, recommends she be placed in a home without small children. Her vaccinations are up to date, and she's spayed.

From Olivia's current caretaker:

Olivia is kennel trained, leash trained and goes outside to the potty when you let her out. Olivia is full of energy and loves to run laps around the yard—her favorite game is chase. This active girl never seems to get tired and loves to be on the move. This is also why she isn't a good fit for younger kids; as sweet as she is, her high energy can be a bit much for younger children. We recommend a home with adults and teenagers. She can be cautious of new people—men in particular—but a couple of visits with Olivia and you will soon see her open up.

Sophia, chihuahua and dachshund mix

Sophia is a lovable female chihuahua and dachshund mix currently residing at Animal Rescue of Fresno.

Sophia gets along well with other dogs. Her ideal forever home would be a cat-free environment. Sophia is looking for a home without small children. She's spayed, and she has had all her shots.

Here's what Sophia's friends at Animal Rescue of Fresno think of her:

Say hello to Sophia, who is a delightful mixture of dachshund and chihuahua. She is quite shy and not recommended in homes with young children, as they can frighten her. She's a quiet gal and treat-motivated. She has a special trick that she can do for you if you have treats to offer: She will sit up on her haunches with her paws up like a tiny kangaroo. Come and meet this faithful companion.
