Now open in the Fotografiska New York photography museum at 281 Park Ave. South is modern European restaurant Verōnika.

This Gramercy newcomer is the tenth New York City restaurant from celebrity restaurateur Stephen Starr, whose other ventures include Buddakan and Le Coucou. Billed on its website as "a grand European café that will take you on a culinary journey from Paris to Budapest," Verōnika boasts a classic interior, with 20-foot ceilings and seating for nearly 150 guests.

Chef Robert Aikens' menu is made up of dishes inspired by the cuisines of Northern and Central Europe. Check out starters like the beef tartare with quail egg, the assortment of caviar, the foie gras poché with chicken consommé and the borscht with red cabbage and sour cream. Entrees include chicken Kiev, Dover sole with sauce meunière, schnitzel and more, while the bar serves up a full list of beers, wines and cocktails. There's also a selection of daily specials, featuring more favorites like beef Stroganoff and Châteaubriand for two.

With a 4.5-star rating out of six reviews on Yelp so far, the fresh arrival has already made a good impression.

Gary FX L., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on Jan. 5, wrote, "World-class experience in a gorgeous space. Our highlights were the Liverwurst with Madeira and Pierogies with caviar. Wine list is eclectic and fairly priced."

And Yelper Go B. noted, "Tried the potato pierogi, escargots georges perrier, lobster a l'americaine for main and the omelet norvegienne for dessert: all excellent. Excellent service. Highly recommend."

Intrigued? Stop in to try it for yourself. Verōnika is open from 5–10 p.m. on Sunday-Wednesday and 5–11 p.m. on Thursday-Saturday, with plans to add lunch and brunch service.
