1. Mare

Topping the list is Mare. Located at 223 Hanover St. (between Cross and Mechanic streets.) in North End, the Italian spot, which offers seafood and more, is the highest-rated high-end Italian restaurant in Boston, boasting four stars out of 265 reviews on Yelp.

Yelper Michelle T., who reviewed Mare on Nov. 23, wrote, "Zuppa di Mare - can't really go wrong if you love seafood. Lobster ravioli - highly recommend! Five generously sized ravioli. I'm not typically a fan of creamy pasta but this one was delicious with the smoked bacon bits."

Allison C. noted, "For our appetizer, got the Surf & Turf, which came with two scallops and a heaping of braised short rib. The scallops were a bit too salty by themselves but went well with the truffle mash. The mash itself didn't have a very strong truffle taste, but the short rib was delicious."

2. SRV Boston

Next up is Back Bay's SRV Boston, situated at 569 Columbus Ave. (between Wellington and Springfield streets). With 4.5 stars out of 409 reviews on Yelp, the wine bar and Italian spot has proven to be a local favorite for those looking to indulge.

Yelper Georgina W. who reviewed SRV Boston on Feb. 3, wrote, "One of the best South End restaurants. SRV's bar menu (Venetian small plates) definitely rivals the dinner options. Light yet packed with flavor, SRV is where we go for dinner, drinks, apps and late-night drinks."

3. Marliave

Downtown Boston's Marliave, located at 10 Bosworth St. (between Tremont Street and Chapman Place), is another top choice, with Yelpers giving the fancy cocktail bar, French and Italian spot four stars out of 1,293 reviews.

We looked there for more about Marliave.

"Henry Marliave, a French immigrant from Paris, arrived in Boston with a collection of recipes and the dream of finding success in the United States," the business says in the history section of its Yelp profile. "Henry Marliave achieved his American dream by opening his namesake: Restaurant Marliave at 10 Bosworth Street in 1885. The Boston dining landmark was reopened by Grotto chef/owner, Scott Herritt, and has recently added an espresso bar to the lower level which serves coffee, tea, snacks and pastries."
