Want the intel on Sacramento's buzziest local spots?

We took a data-driven look at the question, using Yelp to analyze which local businesses have been on the tips of diners' tongues this month.

To find out who made the list, we looked at Sacramento businesses on Yelp by category and counted how many reviews each received. Rather than compare them based on number of reviews alone, we calculated a percentage increase in reviews over the past month, and tracked businesses that consistently increased their volume of reviews to identify statistically significant outliers compared to past performance.

Read on to see which spots are riding a trend this spring.

Open since January, this bar and Vietnamese spot, which offers noodles and more, is trending compared to other businesses categorized as "Bars" on Yelp.

Citywide, bars saw a median 1.2% increase in new reviews over the past month, but Saigon Alley Kitchen + Bar saw a 31.6% increase, maintaining a healthy four-star rating throughout.

It's not the only trending outlier in the bar category: Fixins Soul Kitchen has seen an 8.2% increase in reviews, and Magpie Cafe has seen a 1% bump.

Located at 1801 L St., Suite 50 in Midtown, Saigon Alley Kitchen + Bar offers banh mi sandwiches and rice plates, as well as vegan specialties like the Plant-wich — a baguette with cilantro, onions, pickled daikon and carrots, cucumbers, bean sprouts, peanuts and a vegan vinaigrette.

Saigon Alley Kitchen + Bar is open from 11:30 a.m.–10 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday and 11:30 a.m.–midnight on Friday and Saturday.

Whether or not you've been hearing buzz about Morrison Creek's Butt3rmilk Cafe, the breakfast and brunch spot, which offers burgers and more, is a hot topic according to Yelp review data.

It significantly outperformed the previous month by gaining 2.8 times more reviews than expected based on its past performance.

There's more that's trending on Sacramento's breakfast and brunch scene: Woodlake Tavern has seen a 3.2% increase in reviews.

Open at 6425 Florin Perkins Road since December 2018, Butt3rmilk Cafe offers early morning fare like breakfast burritos, French toast, eggs Benedict and chicken on waffles. There's also an assortment of burgers, sandwiches and salads on the menu.
