GUSH: Movement for Humans with Joe Goode

Mission-based Joe Goode Performance Group’s first-ever dance festival at its Annex is adapting to a scaled-back, virtual platform. To kick off the festival, Goode will present an open "Movement for Humans" class on Zoom, an all-levels class for all ages and all bodies that fosters a deeply present state.

The movement sequencing is designed to facilitate an unpacking of the body, bringing it into a state of creative receptivity. Expect a safe and supportive environment — no experience required.

With Friends of the Urban Forest, learn about the top 10 tree species the community group has planted in the past 10 years. Deepen your familiarity with San Francisco's urban forest and learn how to identify popular street trees. There will also be some spot polls to test your tree knowledge.

During two conversations, held in collaboration with the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts and the Museum and the African Diaspora, speakers seek to answer questions including: How do we cite and honor our existence? How do we ensure our labor is acknowledged and our stories are heard for us to receive our fair share, both in civic and artistic arenas?

Hear about how telling one's story, recording a community’s legacy, and creating visual representations of one’s ancestry are methods of resisting erasure.
