5 options for stay-at-home fun in SF: Saturday, June 27 & Sunday, June 28

The Bay Area's shelter-in-place order has brought countless events usually held as in-person gatherings online. We're aiming to support local businesses in San Francisco and Oakland by highlighting five of these events each day.

Here's your SF online event calendar for Saturday, June 27 and Sunday, June 28. Options include a live concert from the cellist of Page Street,  a family-friendly drag show or a watercolor workshop.

Plein Air Watercolor Workshop

North Beach-based artist Lucia Gonnella is returning Zoom for the latest installment in her watercolor workshop series with Hayes Valley Art Works. This time around, she'll be instructing students on painting calandrinia flowers. You'll get instructions on the basics, as well as more advanced painting techniques for those seeking to improve their skills.

Black Comics Matter

This 90-minute workshop, entirely taught by Black artists and creators, is targeted at kids of color (aged 8 to 18). Instructors will discuss the basics of creating comics and character design, the history of Black representation in comics and cartoons, and methods for channeling the Black experience through story and metaphor.

Pride Day Sunday Celebration

On the day of what would have been the 2020 Pride parade, join Tenderloin-based Glide Church for a moving morning of music and uplift for the soul. The church aspires to continue to be a "spiritual center of healing, faith, justice and community for everyone," even virtually.

Rainbow Connection: A Family-Friendly Drag Show

At this Pride event, some of the Bay Area’s top drag talent will showcase original, kid-friendly routines centered on Jewish values of inclusion, kindness, courage, self-expression, confidence and love. The fun concludes with a parade-in-place and dance party.

Manny's Musical Sundays: Saul Richmond-Rakerd, The Cellist of Page Street

In April, we reported on professional cellist Saul Richmond-Rakerd, who's turned the lemons of his cancelled gigs into the lemonade of weekly porch shows for his Page Street neighbors. Now, he's going citywide with a virtual concert hosted by Mission-based community space Manny's. Tune in and enjoy his music from your home.
