The Humble Butternut brings Indian fare to Gandy-Sun Bay SouthPhoto: The Humble Butternut/Yelp

If you've got Indian on the mind, a recent opening is need-to-know. The new addition to Gandy-Sun Bay South, called The Humble Butternut, is located at 5224 S. Dale Mabry Highway.

Owner Natasha, who spent the last 15 years developing her own twist on Indian cuisine, grew up watching her mother cook global recipes. With the founding of Humble Butternut, she strives to go beyond classic dishes like butter chicken and curries: "I want to demystify the spices and grains that are integral to Indian food and reintroduce them in a modern, innovative and palatable way," she writes on business's website

The eatery, which currently offers curbside pickup, serves up burgers, sides and sweets. Menu items include a tandoori turkey burger topped with caramelized onions, tacos filled with black beans, masala cauliflower and homemade salsa plus a saffron and cardamom cheesecake.

The Humble Butternut has proven popular thus far, with a five-star rating out of four reviews on Yelp.

Sirali K., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on June 13, wrote, "The flavors of the chicken and paneer tacos were absolutely delicious! Don't forget the side of spicy sauce. It's the perfect amount of spice to make the tacos pop. We also got the side of corn, which was creamy and paired perfectly with the tortilla chips."

Yelper Pamela A. shared, "The food here is amazing. I loved the lamb burger, and my friend got the turkey burger. Everything was delicious and fresh. I can't wait to go back during my upcoming Tampa trip. Highly recommend!"

Order online and try it out for yourself: The Humble Butternut is open from 5 p.m.–8 p.m. on Tuesday and 4 p.m.–7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. (It's closed on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday.)
