A new food hall, which is the first of its kind in Los Altos, is finally about to open its doors to anxious foodies in the South Bay. According to Eater SF, State Street Market welcomes customers starting Tuesday, September 7th inside the ground floor location at 170 State Street. The project features around 20,000 square feet of restaurant space that will house several food vendors that are bolstered by some big-name Bay Area chefs. The concept could turn Los Altos into a Silicon Valley dining destination.
As Eater reports, star chef Srijith Gopinathan of Taj Campton in San Francisco and Ettan in Palo Alto will open a restaurant counter space called Little Blue Door inside State Street Market. Gopinathan says the menu will have around 15 items and that he is excited to get his creations into the mouths of more people in the South Bay. “It’s a way to reach another cool community while serving a quick and comforting version of Cal-Indian food. It’s similar to what we make at Ettan, similar to what I’ve always made, using the same effort, same recipes, but absolutely no-frills,” Gopinathan told Eater.
As Hoodline previously reported, another notable resident of the market is the Taiwanese/Korean-inspired counter called Bao Bei, which is run by Meichih and Michael Kim, the couple behind Maum in Palo Alto. Bao Bei will start selling its unique take on bao and noodles starting later this month. According to Eater, you’ll also have a pair of creameries to choose from. Tin Pot Creamery opens September 10th selling its locally-produced ice cream, and former Ferry Building favorite Cowgirl Creamery will open at an unknown date selling its hand-crafted cheeses.
Bon Appetit Management Company and Los Altos Community Investments which developed the project will have four of their own food options inside State Street Market. Banks & Braes is a grill-style counter with chicken and flatbreads. Ostro will offer seafood. Grains and Green will have salads and healthier options, and Murdochs is a bar-like setting that will offer high-end burgers. They all open Tuesday.
The food hall also has a separate but attached full-service restaurant space that will eventually be housed by a restaurant with a notable chef. Traci Des Jardins will run El Alto which will serve California-inspired Mexican items. Des Jardins closed her 20-year-old San Francisco flagship restaurant Jardiniere in 2019. An opening date for El Alto has not been set.
Outdoor seating along with mobile and to-go orders will be available every day starting at 11 a.m. except Mondays when State Street Market is closed.
