A Southern California man is currently facing murder charges following the death of his girlfriend at a Thousand Oaks hotel. The Ventura County District Attorney's Office identified the suspect as Uriel Gamboa, 31, from Ventura County, who was arraigned on January 14, with charges including murder and special allegations for use of a deadly weapon and committing a crime with great bodily injury and great violence.
Gamboa was arrested after calling authorities on January 6, claiming he killed his girlfriend and expressing he was "feeling suicidal," court documents said. Deputies found the body of Aliya Pitts, 24, at the Palm Garden Hotel shortly before 11 p.m., according to KTLA. Upon their arrival, discovered the woman dead on the scene, having suffered sharp and blunt force injuries with probable strangulation. Gamboa allegedly used "broken bottle/shards of glass" in the fatal attack.
After the arrest, Gamboa was found with self-inflicted injuries and hospitalized before being taken into custody on January 10. His continued arraignment is scheduled for February 10 at Ventura County Superior Court, and he has been held without bail, as detailed by the Ventura County District Attorney's Office.
