The next 3rd Thursday Commons Block Party is coming up on July 19th! Join us in Civic Center Plaza from 5:00pm-9:00pm for a free nighttime event featuring food, drinks, music and games under the lights of City Hall. And, the July 19th Block Party will include a special dedication for a new public art installation by Zak Ové!
Enjoy a full bar serving wine, beer and craft cocktails, and a selection of delicious street food offerings curated by Off the Grid.
You’ll have the chance to groove to the music of local bands and participate in a dedication celebration for the Common’s newest attraction: Zak Ové’s acclaimed public artwork Invisible Man and the Masque of Blackness – a monumental installation of 40 identical figurative sculptures that speak to contemporary issues of race, politics, and identity. Attendees will have the opportunity to hear from the artist during the dedication at 5:00pm.
The party continues after the dedication with food, music, drinks and games. The 3rd Thursday Commons Block Party is a chance for “kids” of all ages to play: show off your spike skills with “beach” volleyball provided by SF Social, compete against your family and friends in a game of corn hole or giant chess, and check out the new Helen Diller Civic Center Playgrounds.
