Extra Nappy Wednesday got a head start in January at Madrone, and left attendees in absolute awe. Patrons noted that this is the music steeped in the history of our neighborhood and is exactly what is needed and missing from the San Francisco music scene.
You are invited to experience Howard Wiley & Extra Nappy's winter residency at Madrone Art Bar, happening every Wednesday thru March!
About Howard Wiley & Extra Nappy
Howard Wiley is a young lion with an old-school sensibility, and has a rep in local music circles as the hardest bopster around. The Berkeley-born saxophonist wouldn't have seemed out of place in the Bay Area's thriving jazz and blues scene of the '40s and '50s, Wiley still plays it the old-fashioned way: straight up, no chaser. Make no mistake, Wiley is one heavy cat.
Howard Wiley is leading the righteously grooving outfit, Extra Nappy, who play Pop/R&B hits from the 60's-2000's with ecstatic precision and ferocious drive. These are the East Bay's best gospel/ R&B/jazz musicians with astounding, athletic and utterly electrifying sounds. These Masters of Groove and Soul offer an unforgettable journey into the world's most Extra Nappy musical practices.
Extra Nappy Wednesdays features Howard Wiley on tenor saxophone along with a core group of rotating musicians including Thomas Pridgen (drums), Lionel "LJ" Holoman (keys), Mike Aaberg (keys), Tiny Lindsey (electric bass), Darian Gray (drums) and special guests vocalists.
