"Like Radiohead without the vocals: piano meditations softly underscored by electronics " — Record Collector

The most celebrated European pianist and composer in contemporary classical music, Einaudi has contributed to the soundtracks of major films including Darren Aronofsky's Black Swan and Clint Eastwood’s J. Edgar.

Starting his career as a composer with a series of coveted commissions from august institutions such as IRCAM in Paris and the Tanglewood Festival, he quickly found the classical music world too constrictive. Looking to integrate his far-flung influences, the Italian pianist engineered a grassroots classical insurgency, earning an avid international following with his lyrically charged, rhythmically inviting electronica-laced sound.

He’s reached his widest audience through a series of cinematic collaborations, providing music for Shane Meadows’ acclaimed 2006 documentary film This Is England, and 2011’s Intouchables. But as a master craftsman and performer he’s also become a concert sensation, a phenomenon documented on a series of award-winning live albums like 2008’s Live In Berlin.

He was the first classical pianist to reach the top 15 on the UK album charts, and last year he expanded his sonic purview with Elements, a project for piano, electronics, and orchestra that evokes the natural world with music that germinates from cellular melodic fragments – music he brings for this performance.
