Hayes Valley Farm Needs Your Help. Like, Right Now.
If you're a regular Haighteration reader, then you already know all about the Hayes Valley Farm. It's that plot of reclaimed, greenified freeway rampage that hosts free produce giveaways, film nights, and easter egg hunts, not to mention breast cancer fundraisers and greenhouse parties. This is in addition to all their regular farming, educating, and bee-massacre-surviving. In short, the folks at HVF do good stuff, and they don't ask for much in return. But from time to time, they do need some help. This would be one of those times.

This week, the Farm is doing a fundraising push, with the goal of financing a number of their upcoming programs and projects. These include hiring dedicated staff and buying materials for their ongoing education programs, as well as tools and supplies for the farm itself. In total, their goal is to raise $20,600. By Sunday night. To achieve this, they've set up a Kickstarter page here. Kickstarter lets you accept donation pledges in the hopes of achieving a financial goal -- but the transactions only occur if you receive enough pledges to meet the goal. As of this writing, the Farm folks have received commitments totaling $13,654 -- roughly two thirds of their goal. If they don't receive the remainder by Sunday at 5pm, they get nada. Here's a little video they've put together to explain what they're up to: If you think this is a good cause, consider making a donation, huh? If they don't reach their goal, you'll lose nothing. And if they do, you'll feel all kinds of good. And by all means, share this story and help spread the word, won't you? You can click the "Like" button below, or tweet it, or email it, or post it on your Facebook page... you know, share it. Just do it ASAP, cuz the clock's a-tickin'!
