We Have Good News and Bad News
Which do you want first?

We'll start with the bad news. As you may have seen on twitter, there was a 2-alarm fire yesterday at the big gorgeous painted Victorian on the corner of Page & Ashbury. Nobody was hurt, but the house was damaged; they had to smash the attic windows. The fire spread to the house next door, where 6 people were evacuated. There was nobody in the corner house at the time. The attic of the big victorian turned out to be a grow studio, according to one of the officers on the scene. You could smell weed all over the neighborhood. Which was, you know, unusual. Here's another photo from twitter user @MobiusSF. We'll keep you posted on the reconstruction efforts. On to the good news! There are two awesome events in the 'hood this week: one today, one tomorrow.
Tonight, from 5-8, you can meet the elusive Lemony Snicket at Booksmith. He'll be doing a meet and greet and a signing for his new book, Who Could That Be At This Hour. There won't be a reading, but you can get books signed, take some photos, and ask him about that time he played the accordion on The Magnetic Fields album 69 Love Songs (true story). Daniel Handler, better known by his alias, is a Cole Valley resident and the absolute funniest man you've ever met, so we highly recommend swinging by.
The impossibly hip kids' vintage store in Cole Valley Tantrum is throwing a pop-up vintage event for grown-ups that will benefit the SF Child Abuse Prevention center tomorrow, December 6th, from 7:30-10. Of course, the event has an impossibly hip name that we can't get over: Hissy Fit. Quoth the blurb they sent over:
'Tis the season for cocktail parties, get togethers and straight-up hootenannies. Whatever shall you wear?? Never fear, HISSY FIT is here. Tantrum, Cole Valley's colorful and popular "kid-centric" midcentury shop, is going grown up with a pop-up style vintage sale. You'll find racks of swoon-worthy vintage dresses, coats and accessories guaranteed to have you arriving in grand style at any event. The ladies will also have plenty of swank shirts and ties to help dudes embrace their inner Don Draper. But, like any vintage event, these one-of-a-kind goodies will be gone in a flash, so make sure to arrive early to scoop up the best of the best. Co-curated by Tantrum owners Michelle Spear & Amanda Weld and Alix Tyler, editor of popular nostalgia blog Modern Kiddo. A portion of sale proceeds to benefit the San Francisco Child Abuse Prevention Foundation.
Lots of local business have donated items for them to use in games and giveaways, and it's sure to be a really good time, so make sure you stop by.
