Gluten-Free Mural Replaced By White BuffaloPhotos: Nuala Sawyer / Hoodline
Our favorite gluten-free mural has been replaced by a new work of art.

Perhaps it was the hateful tagging. Maybe the artist decided that a gluten-free lifestyle wasn't for them. Or, it could have just been time for a change. Regardless of the reason, the garage door around the corner from Vinyl Coffee and Wine Bar has been repainted, this time with an abstract representation of, or by, white buffalo.

According to a Wikipedia entry, white buffalo are considered sacred in Native American culture. White buffalo in the past (probably albinos) were christened with names like "Be Happy Spirit" and "Mandela Peace Pilgrim". A white buffalo is also featured on the Wyoming state flag, leading us to wonder if this is an homage to a home state, or merely the name of the artist. The White Buffalo is also a band, a nickname of South African boxer, and the name of a Rin Tin Tin episode.

Regardless of the mural's meaning, we're glad to have a new piece of art stampeding its way into the neighborhood.
