NOW! Community Festival Begins TomorrowPhoto: NOW!
We mentioned it was coming, and now it's here. With a launch date of April 27th (that's tomorrow), the NOW! Community Festival is upon us.
In their words, "the inspiration for the festival is to take the energy some of us had created at [freespace] and mix it with the format of South By Southwestmake the emphasis less about the space and more about the work while diffusing it across an entire community."

Diffusing it across the community they are, with a huge list of events in play for the upcoming week. We've compiled a few highlights, but check out their site for complete details on everything that's happening.

Sunday April 27th starts out with a good old-fashioned Ocean Beach cleanup day from 9am-11am.  At 11am head on over to Haight and Belvedere, where a pop-up parklet with free food will be hosted by students of UCSF. At 2pm it's community kickball, meeting at the William McKinley monument in the Panhandle.

On Monday there's going to be an Urban Wandering workshop from 2pm-4pm. Meet at the McKinley monument for that. At 6:30pm try out your capoiera skills at a Capoeira Angola workshop, held at The Center SF.

On Tuesday head on over to the New Liberation Community Garden during your lunch break for a workshop on urban agriculture and storytelling. At 7:30pm there will be a bike-in movie night screening RAD, a 1986 film about BMX racing, held at St Cyprian's.

Wednesday offers two great evening events. The firsta skate disco night at The Church of 8 Wheels, starts at 7pm. At 8pm head over to 1554 Fulton Street for a workshop by Ali Fogarty on how to be a feminist in the bedroom.

There will be a lemonade parklet on Haight and Ashbury on Thursday, as well as a free community dinner at 6pm at St Cyprian's.

Friday's festivities include a BYOB (Bring Your Own Blanket) happy hour from 4pm-7pm at the McKinley statue, as well as a big celebration at St Cyprian's, featuring local bands Odd Owl, Memory Motel, Frozen Folk and Dangermaker.

Finally, Saturday wraps up the festival with a bunch of games (kickball, capture the flag) in the Panhandle from 12pm-6pm, and Madrone's popular Prince vs. Michael Jackson DJ Party.

So there you have it! There are many, many more events happening than listed above, so be sure to check out their schedule online. So far things are looking great for the first year launch of NOW! Community Festival.
