Reconstructing Manholes: An Update On SFMTA ProjectsPhoto: Jared Schwartz/Hoodline
A few weeks ago we shared news that the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) is working on the sewers at Haight and Gough as part of the Market & Haight Streets Transit and Pedestrian Improvement Project. Let's catch up on what they're doing right now and how it affects your commute.

According to SFTMA, there are a few projects taking place on Haight Street between Market, Gough, and Octavia.

Overnight Construction
If you live near Octavia and Haight, you might be wondering why you're not sleeping well. Crews have been working overnight to reconstruct a manhole at that intersection. The good news is that tonight is the last evening they're pulling an all-nighter. Expect construction from 9pm-5am tonight, but if all goes well, that should be the last of it.

Ongoing Sewer Work
The construction on Haight between Gough and Octavia is expected to continue for 2 more weeks. Part of this includes reconstructing another manhole at Gough and Rose. SFTMA plans on accomplishing this one during the day. All work will take place next week (April 21-25) between 8am-6pm.

As a reminder of what to expect upon completion, "the Market & Haight Streets Transit and Pedestrian Improvement Project includes construction of an eastbound transit-only lane on Haight Street between Laguna and Market streets, widening of the sidewalks at Haight and Gough intersection and traffic signal upgrades."

If you live in this area or walk by much, let us know how it's affecting you (if at all). And if there's any construction/roadwork you're curious about, ask away and we'll see what we can find out.
