Here Comes The MarathonPhoto: Alex Martinez / Hoodline
Street closures and Muni delays will be plentiful citywide tomorrow, thanks to the running of the SF Marathon. But don't panic -- we've got all the details to help you safely navigate through the mess, or avoid it altogether.

First, here's your course map:

The route originates near the Ferry Building, with the first wave of elite runners starting at the inhumane hour of 5:30am.  They'll make their way across the Golden Gate Bridge and back, through the Presidio, and around Golden Gate Park before getting to our neck of the woods at the 19th mile marker. Then they'll pass down nearly the full length of Haight from Stanyan to Buchanan before turning south into the Mission, then eastward to Mission Bay on their final stretch toward the finish line.

"But how does all of this affect ME?" you're wondering selfishly.

Here's how.

Street closures

Needless to say, any roads on the actual race route will experience either specific lane closures or full shutdowns to auto traffic. This starts at 12:01am for the Embarcadero and roads leading to the Golden Gate Bridge, and closer to 6am for other streets along the route. The bridge itself will remain open to two-way auto traffic at all times during the race, but with some lanes closed, you should expect delays. Things should be back to normal by about 10am.

Several roads within Golden Gate Park will be closed between 5am to 11:30am, so if you're planning to drive though the park for some reason tomorrow morning... well, just don't. But if you absolutely have to, expect it to take forever.

Haight Street will be closed to auto traffic from Stanyan to Laguna from roughly 6:30am to 11:45am.  You'll be able to drive across Haight at Steiner and Fillmore, but the flow will be determined by gaps in the race, so this could take a while.

For the full list of street closures and alternate routes, visit the marathon's handy traffic advisory page.

Muni reroutes and delays

"But what about Muni?" you're now asking yourself civic-mindedly.

Well, as you might imagine, Muni will be all sorts of disrupted tomorrow.

The N Judah will experience delays on its Embarcadero / King Street end from 7am to noon.

The 6 Parnassus, 33 Stanyan, 43 Masonic, and 71 Haight/Noriega buses will be rerouted from 7am to 11am to avoid Haight Street.  The SFMTA suggests you head a few blocks south and hop on the N if you need to travel on this route tomorrow morning.

The 22 Fillmore and 24 Divisadero buses will be delayed crossing Haight Street.

You can get all the gory details on the expected reroutes and delays on the SFMTA's marathon information page.

Watching

Finally, the Haight area is a great location to post up and watch the race. Snag a table at Bean There or Cafe du Soleil if you're able (half of the runners are diverted down Waller for a few blocks), or just get out on Haight Street and give a little extra encouragement to folks who could probably use it after 2+ hours of sustained physical exertion.  Then, check back here tomorrow afternoon for our photo recap from the scene.
