Fundraiser At The Page Tonight For Local Resident And Uber Attack VictimPhoto: Alyson Hurt
A few weeks ago, local Lower Haight/Divisadero resident Roberto Chicas was badly injured after an Uber driver allegedly beat him with a hammer on his way home. Tonight, The Page is throwing a fundraiser to help Chicas on the road to recovery.
You've probably heard the story by now: on the night of September 23rd, Chicas and two friends called an Uber to transport them home. After what appears to be an argument over why the driver was taking the freeway (which, as you know, is a very roundabout way to get from SoMa back to the neighborhood), things got ugly.

After pulling over somewhere near Bernal Heights, the driver allegedly became agitated and and hit Chicas in the head with a hammer, causing him to lose consciousness. He may now need several facial reconstruction surgeries, and may lose the use of his left eye.

Chicas has secured representation from lawyer Harry Stern, and the case is ongoing. In the meantime, medical expenses are high, he's unable to work, and the community is now rallying to lend him a hand.

Page bartender Christina doesn't know Chicas personally, but the incident resonated with her. She told us that after she had a bad accident, the community fundraised to help her out, and she wanted to reach out a helping hand in turn. No stranger to community fundraisers, Page owner Bob Wait supported the idea.

Tonight at The Page, 10 percent of all drink sales from 9pm to midnight will go towards helping Chicas get back on his feet. There will also be a raffle held, with tickets sold for $5 and prizes from eating and drinking establishments like  Public House, Louie's, American Grilled Cheese Kitchen, and Vinyl. There will also be raffle  items donated from Rox and Rose Clothing, Dog Patch S.F., The Early Bird Junk Shoppe, Avedano's Meats, and more.

Raffle winners will be announced at midnight, but you don't have to be present to win, so head on over to The Page whenever you're able tonight to help out a fellow neighbor in need.
