4505 Meats, along with its Divisadero offshoot 4505 Burgers & BBQ, has launched a new philanthropy program called "Feed The Pig". Unveiled this month, the goal of the program is to support non-profits and schools who are working to improve the health or education of children and families.

This isn't the first time owner Ryan Farr has dabbled in giving back. A year ago he held a whole hog butchery fundraiser at the newly-opened 4505 Burgers & BBQ. The goal? To help out friend and South Carolina "pit master" Rodney Scott, who lost his pits to a fire.

Now, Farr is looking locally for ways to help out.

"Living and working in the Bay Area for over 12 years now, this is definitely my home and I feel very fortunate to be part of an amazing community," states Farr. "There is no way we could do what we love to do at 4505 without the support of this community, and we feel it is our duty to foster a healthy and sustainable foundation for today's youth."

The system he's set up is simple. Organizations can apply to be supported, and there's a 30-day selection process. Once a partnership is established, signs and donation jars will be posted at all of 4505's locations—4505 Butcher Shop, 4505 Burgers & BBQ, and all the farmer's markets where 4505 has a presence. Donations will be accepted for a full month.

On the final Monday of the month, 4505 Meats locations will also donate a combined 5 percent of the day's sales to the organization.

January's recipient is Synergy School. Self -defined as a "progressive, independent K-8 school with a vibrant, diverse community and a commitment to social justice," the school works to empower children "to become self-confident, accomplished, and creative learners." Through the month of January you can donate to Synergy at any 4505 location.

The final Monday of this month is coming up on January 26th, so if you're hungry for ribs, head over to 4505 Burgers & BBQ to eat your fill while supporting the local community.
