Campaign Launched To Light Up The Lower Haight

Back in January, we told you about a proposal to install hanging sphere lights in trees along Haight Street from Webster to Pierce, similar to the ones outside the Whole Foods Market at Haight and Fillmore (pictured above).

Now, the Lower Haight Merchants And Neighbors Association (LoHaMNA) has rallied various neighborhood bars and restaurants to help raise money for the cause.

The following local establishments will be offering special menu items this week, the proceeds from which will go directly to fund the lights:

Nickies (466 Haight)

  • The "Lighten Up" cocktail: bourbon, fresh lemon juice, honey & clove syrup, ginger beer and a cinnamon rim ($8)

Uva Enoteca (568 Haight)

  • Kale Pizza with fennel sausage, mozzarella, pecorino, basil and garlic ($17.50)

Memphis Minnies (576 Haight)

  • Chilli Cheese Frito Tots: Tater tots topped with Texas brisket chilli, cheddar cheese and Fritos ($8.95)
  • Tedorigawa “Yamahai” Silver Mountain : A Junmai sake that is dry, sharp and smooth all in one ($6)

Maven (598 Haight)

  • The "Twinkles on Haight" cocktail: Sparkling wine, Pisco punch, and rosemary

Mad Dog In The Fog (530 Haight)

  • Mad Dog IPA special: $4 pints / $16 pitchers

The neighborhood association estimates that it will cost at least $5,000 to hang the sphere lights in ten trees on Haight Street. If they exceed that goal, lights could be hung from additional trees, including on the block between Pierce and Scott.

So if you're interested in supporting the cause, head to one of these fine neighborhood destinations and purchase one of the aforementioned items. They'll be available through this Sunday, March 8th.
