ReWAXation Opens Up In Former Big Umbrella Studios SpacePhoto: Nuala Sawyer / Hoodline

The cheery bottom-floor commercial space at 906 Divisadero has a new tenant in the form of ReWAXation Spa, which hopes to serve the neighborhood's hair-removal and tanning needs.

Big Umbrella Studios vacated the location in January of this year after being a highly active part of Divisadero's arts scene and serving as organizer for Divisadero Art Walks.

ReWAXation owner Shay Williamson was casually looking for a second outpost of her Bush Street business, and when she came across the vacancy at Big Umbrella's former location, she hopped on the opportunity. "It's absolutely perfect for what we do," she said.

Although there are a number of nail salons along Divisadero that offer basic hair removal services, there's no spa specific to tanning and waxing. ReWAXation offers a wide array of hair removal services, from Brazilians to brows, bikinis to underarms. Catering to both men and women, it provides sugaring or hard beeswax hair removal, as well as tinting and tanning services.

Along with a new sign and a stylish upgrade to the formerly minimalist gallery space, ReWAXation also hired artist and client Haley GuilFoile to paint a fresh mural on the exterior. "All the typography and art we have in the space was chosen to support women artists and entrepreneurs," Shay says.

ReWAXation had a soft opening this past weekend, but will officially open its doors on April 1st. Grand opening specials, such as $45 Brazilian waxes, will be offered all month.

The waxing spa has a second location at 1006 Bush St., and owned the strange coincidence with the slogan "come to Bush, leave without one." It's unclear if Divisadero will live up to the Bush location in terms of puns, but we're certainly open to ideas.
