Big Umbrella Vacates Divisadero Studio SpacePhoto: Stephen Jackson/Hoodline

Big Umbrella Studios has closed its doors at 906 Divisadero St. The space is up for lease, and the once-colorful art studio has been stripped down to bare white walls.

The news first appeared in the form of a Craigslist listing which advertises the space as having good signage, street parking available in front, and a "beautifully renovated space" with an open layout. Listed for $2,700 a month, the landlord's specifications forbid food service or any business that "produces odors" in the space.

Big Umbrella Studios, which we profiled in April of last year, has been a highly active part of Divisadero's arts scene. The gallery and studio held workshops, organized Divisadero Art Walks, and even ran a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds for the monthly event.

Owner Solange Gabrielli, who took over in July of last year, is also the head of the Divisadero Merchant's Association.

We've reached out to Gabrielli to learn more about Big Umbrella's future, but have yet to hear back. We'll keep you updated as to what might move into the gallery's former space, as well as to whether Big Umbrella has plans to relocate to a new space.
