Castro Recent Crime Roundup

It's been a while since we rounded up some recent crime incidents from around the neighborhood. Though it's been a relatively quiet spring, some recent incidents culled from SFPD reports give a snapshot of the criminal activity that has been happened in the Castro over the last couple weeks:

Woman Allegedly Attempts To Burn Man
The BAR reported on an April 12th arrest involving Victor Ricks (female, 36). Ricks was in the 400 block of Castro at 12:52pm when a man, whose friend Ricks had reportedly been arguing with, asked her for a lighter, according to SFPD spokesman Albie Esparza. Ricks allegedly tried to burn a man's face with an aerosol can and a lighter, and was arrested on suspicion. The man, 21, was uninjured, and Ricks was later released.

4/20 Robbery
At 3:45am on April 20th, a male, 40, was approached from another male from behind near 18th and Castro streets. The victim was knocked to the ground, while the suspect stole his wallet, containing cash and credit cards, and fled. The victim had scratches to his hands, but refused a call for medical help.

Dual Car Break-Ins
Nextdoor user posted a photo and news of two vehicles that were broken into early on April 21st around 18th and Sanchez streets. Unfortunately, as newly arrived Park Station Captain Sanford noted recently, car break-ins are on the rise. "The number of thefts from cars is “way too many,” said Sanford at a recent meeting. “It’s totally tearing up the district, but it’s obviously not just this district, it’s citywide."

Attempted Bar Arson
On April 21st at 12:15am, a male suspect, 27, allegedly attempted to light a bar on fire around 2200 Market St., according to police. (The address suggests that the bar in question was likely Brewcade Update: Brewcade proprietor Shawn Vergara tells us that the incident actually happened at Hi Tops.) The suspect lit a shopping cart on fire, pushed it against the doors of the bar, and then fled the scene. He was later arrested by police and no damage was reported.

Stabbing
On April 21st at 1:15am, two women got into a verbal argument at a bus stop at 18th and Castro streets "over which bus to take to get back to the Fillmore." One of the women attacked the other with a knife, causing lacerations to her hand. The victim, 23, was taken to SF General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. No arrest was made.

Has the neighborhood seemed quieter of late, or pretty much on par with its usual helping of mischief and mayhem? Let us know in the comments.
