Oak + Fort Clothing Boutique Now Open On HayesPhotos: Nuala Sawyer/Hoodline

Canadian clothing retailer Oak + Fort opened its doors onto Hayes Street this morning, bringing modern, minimalist outfits to the neighborhood.

We first broke the news of Oak + Fort's plans to open up shop back in August, when the space was under construction. The clothier plans to operate out of both 567 Hayes and 573 Hayes, though the latter is still being renovated after Pladra held a pop-up in the space over this summer.

For now, operations are continuing out of 567 Hayes, which has undergone a transformation from its days as Zeni. Gone are the colorful green walls, and the space is now light and airy, with easy-to-access racks of clothes and stacks of sweaters and scarves. A small display of jewelry is located next to the counter.

During its first hour open today, the store was bustling, with designers and merchandisers from the company's Vancouver headquarters putting the final touches on the space. And already, the store's first customer were flipping through racks and trying things on.

According to the team at Oak + Fort, the Hayes Valley neighborhood was perfect for the launch of the company's second U.S. store. "We love the  feel and energy of Hayes Valley," said Brand Strategist Malissa Tayag. "It's exactly the type of community where a lot of us over here (in Vancouver) hang out, with all of the small boutiques, coffee shops and design stores. We're such a tiny team over here in our Vancouver studio so we wanted somewhere that felt like home."

A grand opening will take place once construction on 573 Hayes wraps up, and the store expands into that space. Down the line, the shop also intends to expand its menswear options, and host art shows and events featuring local artists.

Oak + Fort is open 11am-7pm Monday through Wednesday, 11am-8pm Thursday through Saturday, and 11-6pm Sunday.
