Fundraising Campaigns Seek Help For Tenants Displaced In Dec. 29 FirePhoto: Hoodline

Supporters of Inner Sunset residents displaced by a 2-alarm fire on December 29th are currently raising funds to replace the victims' lost valuables and help them find new homes.

The blaze initially started on the second floor of 1210 4th Ave. and spread to the upstairs unit. The fire was brought under control within 30 minutes, but fire and water damage to the building was extensive. According to the Examiner, 8 to 12 people were displaced by the blaze.

So far, we're aware of two fundraising campaigns to assist the tenants who were forced to relocate.

Friends of Lisa, Mario and Brent have put together a page to raise money to help them replace their lost belongings and find lodging. As the page states, "San Francisco is a challenging place to call home and losing a rent controlled apartment is devastating and life changing."

So far, the campaign has raised $3,361 from 35 people; the page's target goal is $15,000.

A separate campaign has been set up for the Hilsenbeck Nickl family, who occupied the building's top unit. In addition to losing their home and all their possessions, their cat, Chuck, died at the scene. According to their GoFundMe page, the family was vacationing out of town when the fire occurred and "are currently displaced and are in desperate need of your support."

To date, 248 supporters have donated $32,457 toward a goal of $50,000. The Hilsenbeck Nickl family includes two young children; many supporters are from the Grattan School community and Cole Valley neighborhood.

If you know of any more fundraising campaigns or other efforts to support the displaced residents, let us know in the comments.
