Firefighters battled a blaze that broke out at 1210 4th Ave. in the Inner Sunset this morning. 253 Lincoln Way was also affected by the fire. Read on for updates.

Update, 11:08am: The fire may have started on the second floor and extended vertically from there, according to emergency personnel, who continue to battle the blaze. Heavy traffic is reported from 9th Avenue to Golden Gate Park.

Update, 11:20am: Good news: scanner chatter indicates that a cat has been recovered from the building and is in "viable" condition. No injuries or evacuations were reported. (Sad addendum: The Examiner reports that the cat, or a cat from the building, has died.)

Update, 11:38am: Firefighters are still inside the building, but the blaze was reported to be contained at 11:15am. One witness said that some of the building's residents could be seen outside, dressed in their pajamas and barefoot.
