Hayes Valley newcomer Cala is expanding its offering once again, after a successful launch in the neighborhood last September. The restaurant began with dinner only, but expanded with Tacos Cala, a lunchtime street food experience accessible through a back door, in November.

Starting this Friday, patrons can enjoy Tapas Cala—an evening activation of the Tacos Cala space for drop-in standing-room-only bites or drinks while waiting for a table. Sample dishes include raw oysters, trout and ceviche tostadas, and smoked trout croquetas; cocktails will include Cala's house margarita, Paloma and more. Tapas Cala will be open from 5-11pm on Fridays and Saturdays only; enter through the door on Hickory Street (between Franklin and Van Ness).

Neighborhood brunch hounds will also be interested to learn that a Saturday brunch will also debut this weekend, in addition to the preexisting Sunday brunch. You can now swing by from 10am-2pm every weekend for dishes such as huevos rancheros over sopes ($17) or chilaquiles rojos o verdes with a fried egg ($18).
