Bench Outside Green Apple Books On The Park Transformed Into Prince TributePhoto: Green Apple Books on The Park/Facebook

The Public Bench Project has transformed its installation at Green Apple Books on the Park into a tribute to Prince, who passed away unexpectedly last week at the age of 57. The bench has been painted purple with images of raindrops, in honor of Prince's iconic 1984 film Purple Rain.

Chris Duderstadt, the artist who decorates and installs benches throughout the Inner Sunset, said the city's graffiti-abatement team had painted over his previous design. He eventually plans to relocate the Prince bench to the Church of 8 Wheels, after he creates a new bench for the space outside the bookstore.
