North Beach Week: The Wharf's Pokémon Crawl, SF Marathon & Race Expo, More

The theme for North Beach in the next few days: Rattata, Rapidash and (human) runners.

Unless you've been living under a rock (what do rock rents in North Beach go for these days?) you know the Pokémon Go craze has swept the nation, and tonight, it lands in Fisherman's Wharf. All 70 neighborhood Pokéstops will have active lures, while local businesses will feature specials on drinks, food and shopping. You can get all the game details here; they're expecting big crowds, so be prepared, be safe and may the best monster win.

Keep those feet moving by swinging by the Race Expo at Fort Mason, which opens on Friday as a lead-up to the San Francisco Marathon on Sunday. Racers can pick up their welcome packs and bibs, while spectators can explore the expo, which will feature health and fitness exhibitor booths, samples of energy drinks and chewables and—because it's San Francisco, after all—a beer garden sponsored by Lagunitas.

Speaking of the race, expect some traffic delays around the waterfront, as some races begin as early as midnight Sunday. Keep an eye on the marathon's travel advisory page for the latest closures and detours. If you'd like to hit up a spectator spot and take in the action, there's a list of places you can watch runners dotted all around the city.

Since you may be frequenting Fisherman's Wharf a bit more than usual in the days ahead, be sure to check out the Bold Italic's recent un-tourist guide for some hidden spots around the neighborhood.

Now, on to our editor's picks for the days ahead. For a full list of what's going on around town this weekend and beyond, don't forget to check our hoodline.com/events. If you see a local event missing and want to get in on the fun, submit it for free for the chance to see it featured in our next events roundup.
