Upper Haight Week: Burning Man Prep, Writing Advice For Teens, Urban Art, MorePhoto: Camden Avery/Hoodline

It's Burning Man eve, and the neighborhood is full of tricked-out vans, buses loaded with art installations, and an even higher-than-usual quantity of furs, post-apocalyptic sunglasses and plastic flowers.

Aside from pop-up Burning Man shop at Second Act, there are multiple stops to hit for your playa gear, from the classic Distractions to Piedmont Boutique to Goodwill and beyond.

Not getting your party supplies locked down for a week in Black Rock City? No matter. There's also a young writers' workshop Saturday afternoon at the Booksmith with debut novelist Dave Rudden, who just released his new book, Knights Of The Borrowed Dark. Rudden will be signing his book and taking some time to chat with young aspiring writers.

Looking forward to next week, the Red Vic is debuting an art exhibition called "Urban Upstarts," which will feature multimedia works by young artists influenced by the city.

Here's a look at events in the Upper Haight through the weekend and beyond; As always, view the full citywide roster and add your own events for listing at hoodline.com/events.
