San Francisco's notorious Millennium Tower, once considered one of the world’s premier luxury condos, encountered problems such as leaning, tilting, and a sinking foundation, which led to multiple lawsuits and a plummet in condo prices. After a series of unsuccessful fixes, the $100 million retrofit project has recently been completed, with early results indicating a reversal in the tower's tilt by nearly one inch. The techniques utilized in the retrofit were unprecedented, involving the installation of 18 concrete piles to support 18 million pounds of weight, shifting the structure's foundation load. Despite these improvements, the tower will be monitored for the next decade to ensure complete correction of the tilt, and project completion is expected in August with additional improvements to the surrounding infrastructure.
