A devastating accident in Vallejo, California has left a community heartbroken, as a 2-year-old child succumbed to fatal injuries after being struck by a car backing out of a driveway on July 5, 2023, according to KCRA. The accident occurred when a 25-year-old driver, a family friend of the child, reversed her Dodge Charger out of a private driveway and unexpectedly hit something.

Upon checking what she had struck, the driver discovered she had collided with a small child, as reported by the San Francisco Gate. The child was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital by the driver and family members, but tragically could not be saved.

The Vallejo Police Department, who responded to the call regarding the injured child, have been conducting an investigation into the accident. In an update provided via their Facebook page, they noted that the driver remained on the scene and has been cooperative throughout the process. Drugs or alcohol have been ruled out as contributing factors in the collision.

This marks the third traffic fatality in Vallejo in 2023, with the other two fatalities also caused by collisions.
