On Monday, Tammi Smith, a 42-year-old transient, was apprehended by the San Mateo police while burglarizing an apartment on the 4000 block of South El Camino Real. The incident showcased the power of community vigilance, as stated in the San Mateo Police Department report.

According to the police report, Smith had gone knocking on doors in the apartment complex before ultimately removing a screen and climbing into an open window. A resident, alerted by Smith's activities, called the police, providing details instrumental to her capture in a nearby parking lot.
